26/4/08 Lyndhurst V Hamble United.  This was the return leg of our first ever match, which we won and the gracious losers said was because the pitch was rubbish.  Anyway we played them today on their field and once again got what we have come to expect.  A very physical game, two footed tackles are the norm when you play some teams and this was one of them.  the end result was we lost 4 -1 which I feel flattered our opponents a draw would have been a far result.  we had more chances but couldn't but them away.

Or first year with a men's team and we have come third not to bad when you think that some of our so called better players left because they didn't want to spend time on the bench,  their loss.  the lads that have stayed work harder and our better team players than those that have gone.  We will be looking for a few new players for the next campaign.  lets hope its as successful as this one.

Great performance from Neal Clifford playing centreback with big Matt Royl for the first time and from Lee Sellen playing right back and our only goal scorer.

HUFC

9/3/08 Warsash Wasps Res V Hamble United.  Another cup match.  But these lads are in the same league as us and shouldn't be.  Anyway short of all of our main strikers we juggled the team about and did our best.  New Keeper James Lewington must have thought that what have I done.  The final score was 6 - 3 Two of our goals going to Andy Longland and one to Lee Sellen.  James had a great opening match I'm just sorry he was so busy there not all like that honest.  Not our best performance by any means but we showed the strength to battle on regardless.

Final Score: Warsash Wasps 6, Hamble United 3.

Hamble Goal Scorers: Andy Longland 2, Lee Sellen 1.

Man of the Match: Andy Longland great effort mate this last few games you have played out of your skin.

HUFC

2/3/08 Hamble United V SPI Lasers.  Lasers are in div 6 and third from top so this would be a good match to measure are self in.  There first goal was scored by their keeper total none communication between our keeper and centre back.  We stuck to the task in hand going down three two.  From what I was told they fielded their strongest side  and ours wasn't.  All in all a draw would have been a fair result.  If some of our squad that have dropped out had shown the commitment and maturity that the lads we no have do, we would not have lost this match or most of the others to be fair.

HUFC

23/2/08 Hamble United V Eastleigh United.  We had 13 players today and one of them was the allusive 'SPUD' once again back in goal.  We squandered at least 6 clear chances in the first half and struggled to maintain any composure in the game and went in 3 - 0 down at half time.  There wasn't much need for a team talk as they all new what was wrong. Out they went for the second half and conceded a fourth at that stage even I was losing the faith.  Then there was a heavy challenge made on Marc Waddington which saw the Ref book one from each side for throwing there handbags around.  That did the trick for us, we changed the formation to 3-5-2 and never looked back.  Goals came from Mike Nightingale with a hat-trick, Gareth Clutterbuck 1 and Andy Longland 1.  We were first to the ball all over the pitch, the last 30 minutes of the match  was the best performance this side of Christmas now all we need to do is keep it up.

Final Scorer: Hamble United 5, Eastleigh United 4

Hamble Goal Scorers: Mike Nightingale 3, Gareth Clutterbuck 1, Andy Longland 1.

Man of the Match: For the last 30 minutes you all played out of your skins so well done to all of you.

And remember from now on we all go to the MANOR in Portsmouth Rd after every home game.

HUFC

16/2/08 AFC Terminal V Hamble United.  We did it again, commitment is something some of our squad seem to be lacking and It showed again today.  Terminal should not be able to compete with us at our best but today they went one better and beat us 4 - 3.  Not until the last 20 minutes did we show how we can play.  Two goals in the first half from Mark Elmes and one from Andy Longland in the second made the last twenty minutes very interesting but it wasn't to be.

Final Scorer: AFC Terminal 4, Hamble United 3

Hamble Goal scorers: Mark Elmes 2, Andy Longland 1

HUFC

9/2/08 Hamble United V AFC Terminal.  Once again we struggled to get a team up but thanks to Andy Longland and his mates we managed to sign two lads on the day.  The game was a little flat but we went into the break 2 - 1 up thanks to goals from Mark Elmes and Andy Longland.  Second half much the same but Terminal managed to equalize which was the end of the game.  We have the ability to finish in the top two of this league but we need to have more commitment to the team lets hope it improves.

Final Score: Hamble United 2, AFC Terminal 2

Hamble Goal Scorers: Mark Elmes 1. Andy Longland 1.

Man of the Match:  Only one person in the frame for this PHIL SELLEN literally ran his legs off excellent performance mate.

HUFC

31/1/08 Hamble United V Rising Sun.  Least said the better to many moaning about their team mates and the ref, not enough looking at there own performances.  This is supposed to be men's football not U9s.  I hope the right age group turns up next week.

Final Score: Hamble United 0, Rising Sun 4

26/1/08 New Forest V Hamble United.  This was the away leg for us after winning at home 2-1 we were confident we could do it again.  On arriving at the ground I was surprised as one of the Forest players at the last game, told us it would be like going to Beirut.  I thought it was quite a nice place.  They obviously had a few new players which made a difference to the game and we hadn't played for 5 weeks which didn't help us either.  the game was end to end with not many clear chances either way, then we were given a corner which Mr Ian Jarvis took and hit as sweet as you like reaching the back post, in came big Dave Baker with a towering header giving us the lead.  Then the unthinkable happened Forest scored the equaliser then they took the lead after being awarded a penalty which was saved by stand-in Keeper Kevin Longland but the only players to react where wearing yellow and they scored from the rebound.  Second half started and we spent most of the half camped in their half.  But could we score not a chance, did we have any shoots a few but not as many as we should have.  So in desperation I made a substitution and called of the bench Mark (Solskjaer) Elmes and for the first ten minutes he wondered around looking for the ball then as usual there was a scramble in the box and you guest it Mark got his foot on the end of it to tie the game 2-2.  We had two or three further chances to finish the game off but Forest threw everyone behind the ball,  most of them looked dead on their feet. But all in all Forest deserved their point.  This leg was played in good spirit as well which was a welcome surprise from the first game.

Final Score: New Forest 2, Hamble United 2

Hamble Goal Scorers: Dave Baker 1, Mark Elmes 1

Man of the Match: This was close today as a lot of the team where below par.  But Dave Baker had a great came at left back, Marc Waddington had another good game but my man of the match was Ian Jarvis made one mistake but never stops running and will always give 110% for the shirt well done mate.

HUFC

15/12/07 Eastleigh United V Hamble United.  We have had a few weeks off due to the weather, today we faced Eastleigh for the first time at their place.  Two minutes into the game Marc Waddington found himself with loads of space in the middle and from 35yards out placed the ball into the top left hand corner of the net, giving us the perfect start which lasted all of two minutes when Eastleigh equalised.  It was a pretty tight game with some strange decisions being made.  Than half way through the first half Mark Elmes got his head to a ball to give us the lead which we kept until 5mins before half time, when once again they equalised.  We came out for the second half and the next goal went to Eastleigh but it was their third and last.  It was our turn to equalise and that opportunity fell to Lee Sellen, he slid in and with some part of his anatomy (only Lee knows which part) got the ball over the line.  We have shown a couple of times this season that we are prepared to battle for a result and that we did today.  Eastleigh literally throw everything at us but we dug in and waited for our chance they came and both went to Mark Elmes and he only went and put them both away.  Not our best performance but we showed a lot of character and worked really hard.

Final Score: Eastleigh United 3, Hamble United 5

Hamble Goal Scorers: Mark Elmes 3, Marc Waddington 1 and Lee Sellen1

Man of the Match: For me it was Marc Waddington best match he has had, is starting to look like his old self, made a few crunching tackles and it was a cracking goal.

HUFC

17/11/07 Westwood V Hamble United.  Westwood were tied third in the league with us but we had two games in hand.  So today was a big game.  We had two new players today both centre-backs and both starting.  What a great job they did, Barny Goodenough and Matt Royl who is also the Coach/Manager of our U9's made a real difference to are back row.  Not that the other lads didn't do a good job but these lads actually want to play there.  We had a good start to the game with a goal from Gareth Clutterbuck, but Westwood equalized  shortly after.  Then Mike Nightingale scored two in 10 minutes and finally Gareth scored his second.  We had one casualty in the first half Andy Minchington coming off after a heavy tackle that split his shin pad, Andy was replaced with Lewis Hallum playing for the second time centre-mid.  Westwood pulled one back making the score 2 - 4 at the break.   This was a strong game of football with a few elbows being thrown around.  But I have said it before, we do seem to play better when we get kicked a few times.  Out we came for the second half and after a few minutes of pressure from Westwood we settled back into our stride and Gareth scored giving him his hat-trick.  Westwood once again pulled one back but that was there last opportunity.  We made our next change Gavin came off and we dropped Mike back into midfield and put BIG BAD MARK ELMES up front and guess what he went and scored himself two goals.  yes you read it right MARK ELMES SCORED TWICE!!!!!!!!!

Final Score: Westwood 3, Hamble United 7

Hamble Goal Scorers: Gareth Clutterbuck 3, Mike NIghtingale 2 and MARK ELMES 2.

Man of the Match: Goes to two this week, allthough every one played well Matt Royl and Barny Goodenough our new pair of centre-backs brilliant game lads.

HUFC

10/11/07 Hamble United V City Eagles.  Once again we have back to back games with the same team.  Eagles are a good bunch of lads that battle to the end.   The first half was pretty flat finishing 1 each with a marvellous 'hand of god' goal from Lee Sellen.  Second half started and the lads realised that the game should have been done and dusted so that set about doing just that.  Mike Nightingale scored a hat-trick one after the other and two further goals came from the pocket rocket Andy Minchington and final we had an own goal, giving us a total of 7.  We only conceded one in the second half so the final score was 7 - 2.  Unfortunately we had two players sent off one from each side hand bags at dawn.

Final Score: Hamble United 7, City Eagles 2

Hamble Goal Scorers: Mick Nightingale 3, Andy Minchington 2, Lee Sellen 1 and an own goal.

Man of the match: Mike Nightingale ever time he scores, he scores three well done mate.

HUFC

3/11/07 City Eagles V Hamble United.  The team was managed today by Coach Phil Sellen  I had orders that we were going shopping 'I know who the boss is'.  I managed to get there for the second half and that was when we got our goals.  City Eagles are a young side that never give up, I'm sure some of the teams in this league would have frightened them to death.  But our lads aren't like that so it turned out to be a good game except we left our shooting boots at home.  Three goals in the second half all to us but only two counted. one to Mike Nightingale and the other to Chris Witt.  It wasn't a bad team performance but the shooting well.  Big Gav got through his first full game for the team and played very well and we can look forward to playing them again this week in the return leg.

Final Score: City Eagles 0, Hamble United 2.

Hamble Goal Scorers: Mick Nightingale 1, Chris Witt 1.

Man Of the Match: Gavin Scott he has worked hard to fit in with the side and at times played some very good football.

HUFC

27/10/07 Testwood  V Hamble United. (Junior 'B' Cup)  With a few players missing and a new player starting it was going to be a tough game. The first goal went our way with some excellent football from new boy Gavin Scott, Gareth Clutterbuck and finally Chris Witt putting it away to give us the lead.  Testwood came back at us equalising midway through the first half and then taking the lead on 40 minutes but it was then our turn to equalise.  Andy Longland won and then scored from a penalty just before half time.  We were competing all over the pitch but we had to enforced substitutions.  Testwood scored three goals in the second half two of which where due to poor defending on our part.

Final Score: Testwood 5, Hamble United 2.

Hamble Goal Scorers: Chris Witt 1, Andy Longland 1.

Man of the Match: Will Green Captain for the first time well done mate.

HUFC

21/10/07 Sholing Sharks V Hamble United.  This was the long awaited Junior 'B' cup game and I'm sure that Sholing thought they were in with a shout after last weeks game.  For the first 10 minutes we played with only 10 men as two of the lads were late because of work commitments.  But on 14 mins Mike Nightingale scored his first goal for the club after being away for three weeks and on his first outing up front.  further goals followed from Chris Witt and Lewis Hallum playing in midfield instead of right back today.  Sholing scored on the half hour mark to make it 1 - 3 at half time.   The lads came out second half full of confidence and 5mins in Damian (wolfman) scored our fourth but it didn't stop there we had further goals scored by Lewis Hallum giving him two, two more came from Mike Nightingale making his hat-trick and Ian Jarvis got his first and had the best celebration with a back flip.  Sholing had a penalty awarded during the second half which the but away making the final score 2 - 8.  A great performance the best so far.  That's the third time we have played Sholing and we always have a very competitive but fair game good luck with the rest of the season lads.

That's how we can play when we put our minds to it lads and it needs to be like that for the rest of the season.

Final Score: Sholing Sharks 2, Hamble United 8

Goal Scorers: Mike Nightingale 3, Lewis Hallum 2, Chris Witt 1, Damian Mayhew 1 and our flying and somersaulting winger Ian Jarvis 1.

Man of the Match: Has to go to Mike Nightingale not only for his hat-trick but for his all round game well done mate.

HUFC

14/10/07 Hamble United V Sholing Sharks. This was the second time we played Sholing in the league, the first game finished with us winning 2 - 4 at their ground after giving away to silly goals.  But this was a different matter Chris Witt scored our first on 15 minutes only for them to equalize straight away but just before the end of the first half Andy Longland scored giving us a 2 - 1 lead.  The lads where a little lethargic today and the team seemed a bit disjointed which Sholing took full advantage of scoring two goals and taking the lead half through  the second half.  The lads dug deep and continued to battle then Gareth Clutterbuck equalized with a terrific left footed strike into the top right had corner of the goal.  Andy Longland scored his second giving us a 4 - 3 lead which is how the match finished.

Final Score: Hamble United 4, Sholing Sharks 3.

Goal Scorers: Andy Longland 2, Chris Witt 1, Gareth Clutterbuck 1.

Man of the Match: Chris Witt worked hard throughout the game and got his reward with a goal.

HUFC

7/10/07 Hamble United V Magpies and Woolbridge.  Least said the better, Magpies only had 10 men but they showed us how to play.  We spent more time arguing amongst ourselves than playing football.  That's the end of our Hampshire Cup aspirations this year.

HUFC

29/09/07 Hamble United FC V's New Forest.  This was a very competitive match from the first to the last kick, Hamble lined up with a few enforced changes to the mid-field and the defence, with Mark Elmes again stepping into the captain's shoes.  We knew that the match would be very physical and throughout the first half our mid-field and defence contained New Forest restricting them to only a few wayward shots.  Hamble were looking the more attacking force as we pushed them with Ian Jarvis Playing his first full 90 mins, making some searching runs down the right flank.  Our breakthrough came on 35 mins when Andy Minchington rifled a shot  into the back of the net 1-0!!
The second half started much the same with New Forest becoming more physical towards Hamble and verbally abusive towards the referee, to the boys credit they Kept their heads  with only Chris Witt receiving a caution.  Again Hamble's attacking play was evident and 25 mins into the half Damian Mayhew ran on to a half clearance and rifled the ball home 2-0.
from there Hamble were under the cosh which they dealt with very well limiting new forest to only a couple of opportunities one of these was a 25 yard free kick which they put away 2-1.  The mood on the pitch was very hostile with the ref and the home team suffering abuse; Hamble contained New Forest for the remainder of the game, the final whistle came and  the score remained 2-1. Following the final whistle one of the New Forests players received a red card.

Good performances were put in by new boy David Glasspool up front and Marc Waddington playing centre-mid also Ian Mactaggart who got 20mins up front.

Final Score: Hamble United 2, New Forest 1.

Goal Scorers: Andy Minchington 1, Damian (wolf man) Mayhew 1.

Man of the Match:  Goes to two players this week for their hard work, great interplay and the second goal well done Damian and Dan Mayhew.

HUFC

22/9/07 Sholing Sharks V Hamble United.  Our long awaited game today was not a cup game as expected, but a league game.  With only 12 available to play and a couple of players with injuries it was going to be interesting.  Straight from the start we were up for this. The first goal came 6 minutes in thanks to Andy Minchington and then on 18 Chris Witt scored his first for the club to give us the dream start.  But, not content with one goal Andy M scored a screamer top left hand corner 'that I missed'  but everyone told me it was a wonder goal.  then to round it off Lee Sellen stepped up to the spot after we had been awarded a penalty and coolie finished to make it 0 - 4.  Then the unthinkable Sholing pulled one back.  At half time we changed the keeper over so Lee played in goal and new signing Andy Longland took off his gloves and played centre-mid.  Five minutes into the second half our captain Dave Baker had to come off after a crunching tackle which meant Ian Jarvis came on his first game back after injury.  Sholing had gotten there tails up by this time and we were just containing them another daft mistake at the back cost us the second gaol but that is how it finished.  In fairness Sholing never looked like scoring from open play we had to give them two chances.  All in all a good day at the office. Sholing played a great well natured game of football I only hope the rest of the season can be the same.

We had two ref's today and they both did a great job even if the home team did bend there ears a little.

Final Score: Sholing Sharks 2, Hamble United 4.

Goal Scorers: Andy Minchington 2, Chris Witt 1, Lee Sellen 1 (pen).

Man of the Match: Mark Elmes a better centre-back than he thinks he is and captain after Dave went off.

HUFC

8-9-07 Hamble United V Warsash Wasps Res.  What a difference a week makes.  Warsash are a good side and they know they are, but the lads worked hard and their heads never dropped they battled all the way to the final whistle.  I think we need a team to kick us a few times before we get into are stride but it didn't happen for us today.  Next time the points will be our's.

Final Score: Hamble United 0, Warsash Wasps Res 4.

Man of the Match: This week I'm going to give it to Will Green he has had two good games and I love his new hair do.

HUFC

1-9-07 Hamble United V Lyndhurst Res. We have had a few trials and tribulations in pre-season training but all of that was soon put to bed, with our first game in an adults league.   Lyndhurst turned up in a bad mood and continued to play like that for 90 minutes.  But the lads worked hard and gave as good as they got.  Chris Witt and Andy Minchington  suffered more than there fair share of strong challenges but both just got on with it.  On 17 minutes Gareth Clutterbuck scored his first goal and that served to frustrate our opponents and they spent even more time arguing amongst themselves, the half finished with the score at 1-nil.  Straight from the restart Lyndhurst came at as but 4 minutes in Gareth got his second only for Lyndhurst to score a few minutes later from a free kick  taking the score to 2-1.  They came back into the game for a while butting us under a lot of pressure but our back four stood strong and with a keeper like your Dan (spud) we coped with everything they through at us.  The killer blow came from a mistake from their keeper,  Andy quickly nicked the ball and calmly scored our third and final goal.  Again they through everything but the kitchen sink at us to no avail.

Final score: Hamble United 3, Lyndhurst Res 1

Goal Scorers: Gareth Clutterbuck 2, Andy Minchington 1.

Man of the Match: Hard choice this one. All of you played some excellent football but because of the treatment they received, I narrowed it down to Andy and Chris and because he has more visible battle scares  this week it goes to Andy Minchington.

On a personal note as Chairman of the club and your Manager I thought your conduct was excellent in what was a very physical game.  Well done lads keep it up.
